Split face units provide the appearance of natural stone. They are characterized
by a rough, stone-like texture exposing the split aggregate within the unit.
The broken aggregate provides both unique texture and appearance.
Split face units are available in a multitude of colors and blends.
Betco Supreme manufactures split face units as integrally colored normal
weight units or as natural gray units in either the normal, medium, or
lightweight classifications. Although all integrally colored split face
concrete masonry units are made to order, natural gray split face units are
typically available immediately, in limited quantities and sizes. These
natural gray units are primarily intended for use in structures that will be
stained or painted.
Split face units are also available with a single vertical score to visually
reduce scale and simulate stack bond while maintaining running bond
construction. Also shown are fluted units (split face units with ribs) which
offer yet another design variation.
An integral water repellency admixture is available and highly recommended
for single-wythe masonry construction. This admixture, when incorporated
into the unit mix during manufacture, greatly reduces moisture penetration
and also serves as an efflorescence control. Integral water repellency should
be included in both mortar and concrete masonry units.
