Betco Supreme's specifications are based upon The Construction
Specifications Institute (CSI) and Construction Specifications Canada
(CSC) MasterFormat(TM), SectionFormat(TM), and PageFormat(TM).
Scope
The following specifications contain detailed information on Concrete
Masonry Units manufactured by Betco Supreme, Inc. Minimal information
pertaining to the requirements and methods of constructing walls and
buildings using CMU products is included. Reinforcement, grout, mortar,
and construction best practices are not included and must be referenced to
other sections.
SectionFormat
SectionFormat consists of three primary parts:
PART 1 - GENERAL: Includes administrative and procedural requirements.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS: Includes information about systems, materials,
manufactured units, equipment, components, and accessories.
PART 3 - EXECUTION: Specifies basic on-site work and includes provisions
for incorporating products into the project.
Sentence Structure
Specifications have been written in accordance with the principles and
techniques documented in the Manual of Practice published by CSI. The
recommended method for instructions is the imperative mood, which is used
in Betco Supreme's specifications. They are written to be clear, correct,
complete and concise.
Streamlining
All attempts have been made to reduce verbiage while clearly conveying
meaning. Unnecessary words, such as "the", "a", and "an" are not used in
most instances. Streamlining is used to list products, materials,
reference standards, and other itemized specifications. This technique
places the subject first and provides key words for quick reference. The
words "shall be" are included by inference where a colon (:) is used
within sentences or phrases. For example, "Adhesive: Spread with notched
trowel."
Conclusion
Betco Supreme's specifications have been written to assist Architects and
Design Professionals. They may be incorporated into a master building
specification to reduce the time and effort required to specify concrete
masonry units.
